How thick should a cushion be?

The top height of a cushion should generally be in the 18-20 inch range to allow for comfortable placement when feet are on the floor .When designing seating, position the platform or bench top 14-16 inches above the floor, leaving 2-4 inches of cushion thickness for comfort. The overall height should ideally be between 18-20 inches. If the cushion is not used as standard seating, the height can be adjusted as needed, but there should be enough padding in the cushion (usually at least 2-3 inches thick) to prevent the floor from hitting the surface under the cushion.  

Can cushions be washed?

How cushions are cleaned may vary depending on the specific fabric and fill material. In general, the following are common cleaning methods: Cleaning removable covers: If your cushion has a removable cover,first remove the cover and clean it according to the washing instructions. Typically, covers can be machine washed using a gentle wash cycle and a detergent appropriate for the fabric. Followthe temperature and cycle in the washing instructions. Hand wash or spot clean:Cushions that are not machine washable can be hand washed or spot cleaned.Prepare a shallow basin or sink and soak the mat in warm water and appropriatedetergent. Gently scrub the stain, then rinse with clear water. For stubborn,stains, gently scrub with a soft brush. Finally, blot off excess moisture with a towel or absorbent cloth.

How can I make my bench seats more comfortable?

To make your bench more comfortable, add high-quality cushions of the right thickness, upholster it with soft fabrics, provide lumbar support, ensure the right height and depth, and add decorative throw pillows or blankets.
